Who are Goodyear?

Goodyear are one of the world’s leading tyre manufacturers. It employs approximately 66,000 people and manufactures its products in 49 facilities in 22 countries around the world. Its two Innovation Centres in Akron, Ohio and Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg strive to develop state-of-the-art products and services that set the technology and performance standard for the industry. Goodyear promotes safe driving and innovative thinking into the future of motoring.

What is your relationship with the DIA?

Goodyear has worked with the DIA for the last three years promoting young driver education. The DIA have supported initiatives originated by Goodyear and endorsed them for use across the industry.

What is your favourite piece of tech this year and why?

This year Goodyear launched their tyre of the future, the Eagle 360, the concept tyre has been named one of Time magazine’s “Best Inventions of the Year 2016.” The tyre has been designed to fit autonomous cars of the future and really shows us wat the future will hold.

Which award did you choose and why?

We chose Training School of the Year, we believe that ensuring safer roads in the future starts with the training that new drivers are given, the best training schools will ensure that they are producing drivers with the best attitude and road awareness, helping to build safe roads of the future.

What does the future of driving look like to you?

Autonomous vehicles will play a big role in what driving looks like in the future but motorists will still need to be educated on how to drive and cope with these new vehicles. Our roads will be different and we will all need to adapt to new ways of commuting in the future.

What is your best moment of 2016?

One of the best moments of 2016 for Goodyear was the launch of their virtual reality driver education game in association with the DIA. Goodyear’s Driving Academy has been running since 2011 and this year it got one step better and more innovative with the launch of the Virtual Reality game. The game can be found here.

What are you most looking forward to in 2017?

Goodyear is looking forward to seeing more innovations within the automotive industry across 2017 and we look forward to seeing more developments within autonomous vehicles going forward.
