Car practical tests will be available from Cannock fire station in Staffordshire from the end of February.
Tests will be available from the station two days a week and are available to book from today (14.01.2015).
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’s (DVSA) head of operations Phil Lloyd said the move was to offer a more local service for candidates.
He added: “This is a great example of how we can work with partners in the public and private sector to provide a service that is convenient as well as being cost effective.”
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service lead in Driver Development and Education, Rowan Kitton, said: “We are pleased to be able to support the DVSA in bringing a test centre back to Cannock and to provide our centrally located community fire station for this purpose. This will be more convenient for local residents wanting to take their test as well as supporting driving instructors who will pay less money in fuel by travelling to a local facility. It will also reduce their carbon footprint, benefitting the environment.”
DVSA is holding an open evening for instructors at Cannock fire station on Wednesday 3 February between 6pm and 8pm to view the new site and meet with the examiners.
